Rakshabandhan is a term where ‘Raksha’ denotes to protect and ‘Bandhan’ denotes a bond. Put together, it is a bond which validates protection of the sister by the brother. The festival is widely celebrated for sibling relationship between brother and sister.
On Rakshabandhan, sisters tie a special thread or bracelet around the brother’s right wrist, and pray for his prosperity so he can protect her. Legend goes to say that Goddess Maha Lakshmi tied a Rakhi (Raksha Sutra) around King Bali’s wrist, binding him in a relation of sibling love, responsibility and duty and making him her brother. This led to him releasing Narayan.
Blessings of Ganesh and Lakshmi shower on Earth and are especially beneficial for siblings. Rakshabandhan puja is done before the ceremony, with the help of online temple services and Online Pujari booking to ensure maximum happiness and prosperity of both the siblings.
The online puja rituals start with the sister putting the tilak on the brother’s forehead with some Akshat (white rice), and rotates the Aarti Thali (tray with lighted lamp/ diya) around the brother’s face while praying for his prosperity and happiness.
She ties the Rakhi on the brother’s wrist and feeds him a Mithai (sweet). Some traditions add another step to this process where the brother gives gifts to his sister. Rakshabandhan is celebrated all over India, particularly in the North, East and West Indian regions.
